It is well known that replacing the filters in any HVAC system is vital to keeping your equipment running efficiently. Of course, the more you use your air conditioner or furnace will affect how often you need to replace the filter. At a minimum we recommend homeowners replacing their air filters quarterly.

What other seasonal duties should you prioritize?

Tasks such as replacing air filters and checking for refrigerant leaks should be done a few times a year. However, other tasks can be left to a seasonable timetable.

Spring requires you to get your air conditioner unit for warmer weather. Clean your dehumidifier and ensure your air conditioner is in good working condition before the hot weather hits!

During the summer, clean the area around your air condition unit and make sure to turn off the water to your furnace humidifier. An expert tip is to not turn your thermostat to a lower temperature than your desired one! By setting it any lower you risk over working your unit.

In the fall, check your attic’s insulation and make sure your heating unit is ready for colder weather by checking if any repairs are needed.

The winter is a good time to check the carbon monoxide detector’s battery.
